TALENTED YOUNG VISITORS JOIN DAVID KIDNEY FOR CONSTITUENCY VISITS

There’s a big difference to David Kidney’s constituency visits this Friday. He will be accompanied by two young interns who are working with him in Westminster. Sarah and Siobhan’s internships came about as a result of David’s chairmanship of the Parliamentary Group for children in care and careleavers. Both have past care experiences and they are learning about politics in order to change care for the better for others.

Virgin Trains have provided free rail travel for the two young women to travel from London to Stafford. Staffordshire Youth Service will provide them with lunch. The programme is:

Friday 11 January 2008:
10.00 The Grove Primary School;
11.00 King Edward VI High School;
12.30 Holmcroft Youth & Community Centre for lunch and discussion about youth services;
13.30 Sir Graham Balfour High School;
15.30 St. George’s Hospital to discuss mental health services for children & adolescents.

David explains how the arrangement came about:

“I volunteered to host an internship, one day a week for a year and advertised the post to the Parliamentary Group’s membership. The resultant applications were so strong that I could not narrow it down to one person and agreed to take both Sarah and Siobhan. They are proving to be exceptionally talented and keen to study how our political system works. They are also have their own strong opinions and they are not afraid to express them!

“As part of their work, they asked if they could see me at work in my constituency and so this visit was arranged. I am grateful to Virgin Trains and Staffordshire Youth Service for helping make the visit possible. I hope Sarah and Siobhan learn a different aspect of an MP’s work from their visit”.
