STAFFORD HOSPITAL ADVERTISES FOR NEW TOP POSTS
04 May 2009
Stafford’s MP David Kidney welcomes yesterday’s advertisement for a Chair, Non Executive Directors and Chief Executive for Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust:
“It is a crucial plank in the plan that over 3,500 constituents have endorsed that there is wholesale change at the top of the hospital trust’s leadership. This advertisement demonstrates that the current interim leaders intend to get on with these changes as soon as possible.
“We will look to the new leadership team to carry on the reforms started by the Healthcare Commission and set out in the Alberti report. This includes changing the culture of the whole organisation – as Professor Alberti puts it, from “make do” to “can do” – and a much stronger voice for patients, their relatives and the public.
“The Chief Executive’s post is advertised but I have not heard what the fate is of the previous Chief Executive. I have written to the interim Chairman, David Stone, for confirmation that the previous Chief Executive has gone, and on what terms.
“The reports uncover management failures that led to unacceptable and sub-standard services in A&E, emergency care and basic nursing care. As the most senior manager the Chief Executive should take responsibility for those failings. He clearly hasn’t resigned so he should be sacked”.
