RESPONSE TO HEWITT & HOON E-MAIL

07 January 2010

“Yesterday’s actions by Patricia Hewitt and Geoff Hoon caused a flurry of media interest in the views of Labour MPs about Gordon Brown’s position as Prime Minister and Labour Leader.

“In my view, Gordon Brown is the right person to be Prime Minister and Leader of the Labour Party and my colleagues Hewitt and Hoon were wrong in their judgement.

They were wrong in questioning Gordon’s position and wrong in thinking that other Labour MPs share their view.

“Gordon has shown his ability in the most testing of circumstances. His assured response to the global financial crisis and the world-wide recession that it caused averted a second Great Depression and was widely followed by other countries around the world.

He has also shown strong personal commitment to tackling climate change so that the UK is a world leader in its response to this very serious challenge.

“I trust Gordon Brown as leader of my party and my country.”
