saluteMAKE SURE OUR ARMED FORCES CAN VOTE IN THE GENERAL ELECTION

Stafford’s Labour MP David Kidney says it is essential that our brave soldiers, risking their lives to keep us all safe, should be able to vote in our elections. He says at this time of year it is important to ensure that members of our Armed Forces get registered to vote:

“The Electoral Register is updated every year at this time of the year. It’s important that the Ministry of Defence makes sure that all our soldiers, sailors and air crews get on the Register.

“Members of our Armed Forces (and their husbands, wives and civil partners) can register as Service voters or as ordinary voters. Registering as a Service voter allows someone to be registered at a fixed address in the UK even if they move around, and is therefore useful for those who are moving frequently or who are likely to be deployed overseas at short notice.

“At an election, Service voters have the same voting options as other voters. They can vote in person at a polling station, by post or by proxy. Registration, postal voting and proxy voting application forms can all be downloaded throughout the year from the website:   www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

“I want to remind all Services personnel locally of their options and urge them to register to have their say in the next election like everyone else.”
