CLEAN ENERGY CASH-BACK STARTS IN APRIL

 01 February 2010

One in 10 households could be generating their own green energy by the end of the decade, Stafford’s Labour MP David Kidney says. Clean energy cash-back will be a reality from April:

“The Government has confirmed the rates for a new “feed-in tariff” scheme starting in April. Power from solar panels, for example, could earn £900 a year as well as cut household energy bills by another £140.

“Up to 10% of homes could be fitted with solar panels or get power from small-scale wind turbines or other low-carbon energy technology by 2020. And there’s every reason for communities to consider the benefits of generating green electricity and saving money off their bills.

“I’m very keen that this scheme should boost our energy use from renewable sources, cut carbon and support jobs in Britain. Next year, we are planning a second incentive scheme for renewable heat, which will pay people for heat-producing technology such as ground-source heat pumps and biomass boilers.

“Then the following year we will be ready to start the mass roll-out of smart meters to every home and business. Our country has a target to produce 15% of all our energy from renewable sources by 2020. It’s policies like these three that will ensure we hit our target.”
