Energy and Climate Change.

The new Department for Energy and Climate change delivered a significant statement on 16th October, bringing together a series of measures designed to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, and bring about the transition to a low carbon Britain.

The full text of the statement is linked below.

In brief -

The committment to cut green house gas emissions has been raised to 80% by 2050.

In addition to the push to increase insulation, measures are being taken to increase the role of small scale renewable energy generation, including the introduction of feed in tariffs.

The Government have made it plain that they expect rapid action from energy companies to end the unfair pricing differentials which penalise the poorer members of society. If voluntary action is not taken, then legislation is likely to follow.
