Stafford MP Active on Defence Policy in the House
Stafford’s Labour MP, David Kidney has secured two opportunities to raise defence issues in the House of Commons on Monday:
• During Defence Qestion Time, he will get to ask an Oral Question about the withdrawal of UK troops from Iraq; and • At the end of that day’s sitting (around 10.00 pm) he has an Adjournment Debate which he has titled “The future of MoD Stafford”.
David Kidney explains his reasoning for each of these:
“Both opportunities will allow me to raise concerns that both my constituents and myself have over a defence policies. I will be able to ask questions directly to the Minister over issues that matter to the constituency and to the entire nation.
“In the case of the Oral Question about withdrawing our troops from Iraq, I want to examine the safety of our troops during the delicate phase of such withdrawal.
“In the case of the future of our military base, I am pleased that it now appears to be a secure future and I shall ask about further developments, such as TA training, accommodation for Services personnel and their families and the idea for a “super garrison”.
“I also want to examine the closure of the Storage & Distribution operations at Stafford and the help given to those who are losing their jobs”. |
