MP PRESENTS PETITION TO HOUSE OF COMMONS CALLING FOR
M6 NOISE TO BE REDUCED

  19 May 2009
Stafford’s Labour MP David Kidney tonight presented a petition to the House of Commons calling for the M6 to be resurfaced between Junctions 13 and 14. In presenting the petition, he said that residents were asking for relief from the constant noise of traffic on the M6 running past their homes and a modern noise-reducing surface would give that relief.

Explaining the petition’s request, David Kidney says:

“Just south of Stafford, the M6 was resurfaced recently and the result has been a noticeable reduction in noise from traffic affecting nearby communities. I have asked the Highways Agency to extend this resurfacing northwards in order to protect many more residents who live beside the M6.

“I have not secured any firm commitment from the Agency for this work and this is why I have presented the petition. I want the Secretary of State for Transport to give this matter his personal attention.

“The petition will now be considered by the Secretary of State and I will press him for an early decision. His response to the petition will be published in Hansard at a later date and I will report his response to the residents who are affected by the M6 noise.”
