I’m really pleased and excited about the results our Best Beginnings campaign is having – it’s now illegal for any business to prevent a mother from breastfeeding in public. This is a fantastic result and great example of what people can achieve when they are passionate about their beliefs, like Alison Baum, the founder of Best Beginnings, a registered charity who work to end child health inequalities.
Alison first approached me in 2006 about her concerns that children and their parents were missing out because of a lack of public awareness and understanding towards breastfeeding. So we put our heads together and the Breastfeeding Manifesto was born!
The campaign doesn’t end there though; I’d like to encourage all parents that they should consider breastfeeding their newborns as it is a proven source of vital nutrients. We have to continue to be proactive about protecting the rights of mothers to breastfeed their babies in public.
So what does Best Beginnings Offer? I’m glad you asked – they offer a range of practical resources to engage parents and empower them to bond with their children. They work with the government, health professionals and other charities to ensure evidence-based information, support and high quality services are available for all. That’s why I’m so pleased to be a part of this campaign which follows our values for Stafford of Equality, Clarity and Advocacy.
Want to find out the details of the Breastfeeding Manifesto…fantastic… you can read up on it on the Best Beginnings website where you can even sign up for regular updates on how the campaign is going and what you can do to help. Or feel free to have a chat with me about it anytime.
