YOUNG MARMALADE – NOVEL CAR INSURANCE FOR YOUNG DRIVERS
05 October 2009
A company called Young Marmalade is offering a new insurance to help young drivers become better drivers. This stand-alone insurance allows a young driver to practice in a family or friend’s car ahead of his or her driving test.
Stafford’s MP David Kidney says it is not for MPs to recommend individual insurance products but innovations that promote improved road safety are always welcome:
“This proposal, called Provisional Marmalade, offers separate cover for the young driver in such a way that any claims do not affect the insurance or no-claims status of the car owner. This way, the young driver has fully comprehensive cover for around £3 a day and it can be arranged on a month by month basis.
“As well as the financial benefits of this approach, it also allows a parent to take a greater involvement in helping a child in one of the most hazardous stages of his or her life by supporting the professional instruction.
“This seems to be a solution that many parents and young drivers have been seeking. Hopefully, this approach will prove popular and dependable such that many other insurers follow suit and young drivers will have more choice of lower-cost insurance at the start of their driving careers.”
Provisional Marmalade launched at the end of August 2009. The Scheme Manager is 3XD Limited, the underwriter is Chaucer Motor Insurance and Young Marmalade can be contacted online at its website: www.provisionalmarmalade.co.uk
