A BIG THANK YOU!

We lost the election in Stafford constituency – but not without a fight. So many people worked so hard for so long it really is a tribute to Stafford Labour Party and our many supporters.

Firstly let me thank all those people in Stafford constituency who voted Labour on 6 May. Thank you for putting your trust in me and in Labour. Thank you also to the many people who have left messages of support. This means a lot.

Secondly I want to speak out loud my admiration for the many individuals who willingly gave up time and effort for free to campaign for me and for Labour during the election. Perhaps because we always knew we were on this occasion fighting against the odds this campaign was fought with a wonderful combination of good humour and energy and passion.  This has created real bonds between the old party campaigners and the new young people who came to be a part of this.  

That energy that ran right through this campaign is an inspiration to me, and even at a hard time like now it is a real source of optimism for the future.

I have had the honour and privilege of serving Stafford constituents as the member of parliament for thirteen years. It is a wonderful job, but also a very demanding one. Thoughout these years I have been sustained by an immense amount of goodwill from many constituents. I may have lost the position of MP but with your continued support, I intend to continue to make the case for fighting injustice and working for a fairer, more just society.
